Come enjoy the weaving of natural willow with yarn fibers as the Goddess Art Series Project opens up their second year of projects for 2016.
You ‘ll leave this class with a willow hoop and having learned a few techniques of yarn weaving to begin a hoop that you can personalize with
various items like natural objects, beads or other found objects that you add to it. The hoops are great for inside or outdoor decor and are optionally a way to visually communicate the weaving of our communities if you choose to share the hoop within your own community and complete the weaving with friends and family.
This project reflects GASP”S “The Continuum” web, a traveling art project in Coeur d’Alene that individuals have participated in thread by thread.
“In mythologies all over the world, female deities are depicted at the loom, knitting together the fabric of human life, spinning out the thread that links the events of the past with the potentialities- the unborn people and events- the future. Thus the strategy of the web, of weaving, acknowledges the importance of what Frances Hesselbein called “the continuum”, that sense that one is part of what has gone before and of what will follow.” – Quoted from Sally Helgesen in The Female Advantage: Women’s Ways of Leadership.
