Printmaking with Alexandra Iosub
March 18, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
$65There are so many ways to represent images in both drawing and print! While these two parts of the creative process are different, they work closely together and inform each other in the work of a print maker. This workshop will be a two part class about the beauty of drawing and printmaking in their very different but fully compatible forms.
Part 1 will introduce the students to the role of line and tonality in drawing. We will start by thinking up ways to pick a subject, and decide how to approach it. Bring sketchbooks and pencils, bring your ideas, and maybe even some found objects that you like.
Bring your phones! In part 2 of the workshop we will use Instagram to search for images to inspire us. Each student will pick one technique they feel connected to, and will begin carving their block. We will talk about composition, how to replicate tonality in black and white, outline or no outline, positive space and negative space, and how to think in reverse.
Printmaking is an art form made to be shared, so we will print multiple impressions on high quality paper to take home. Some drawing experience, lots of motivation, and a readiness to handle sharp carving tools is needed.
