4 week course, Tuesdays from 6pm to 8pm. August 25th - September 15th
Ages 16+
In this drawing course, led by local artist Kevin Zirker, participants will expand their knowledge of observational skills and rendering techniques in order to create realistic drawings of the human figure.
Necessary materials for this course are provided. If you wish to bring or use your own supplies, we recommend having the following:
- Drawing stick (A soft pencil, 2B-6B, charcoal pencil, or Prismacolor pencil)
- Large newsprint or drawing paper (24" x 18")
- Drawing Board
- Reference stick (12-36" dowel or long-handled paintbrush to use in measuring and identifying angles)
- Eraser
Week 1: Learning human skeletal and muscular anatomy. A discussion on classic proportions and drawing practice session.
Week 2: Lines, shapes, and shading. Learn about contour lines, how to break the figure up into its basic shapes, and how light casts shadows over a three dimensional surface.
Week 3: Head, Hands, & Feet. Learn how to observe and reconstruct complex shapes, this class is all about practicing ears, eyes, hands, and feet.
Week 4: Poses. Learn how to capture movement and gesture through a series of drawing practices.
